8th of March is one of the major Russian holidays, pretty much an equivalent to Mother’s day in the US. The difference is not only mothers, but all women of any age are considered the beneficiaries of the holiday. Traditionally men give women mimosa flowers on that day and try to pamper them in any way they can.
It also marks the end of Winter and start of Spring.
